ccording to the statistics
of the Institute for Health
Information and Statistics (UZIS)
367,371
adult patients out of
which 164,285 were from abroad
underwent spa care in Czech
in 2013. They were the visitors
who were treated in the spa
taking advantage of one of the
spa indications. A five year old
yearbook states the data from
2009
when 367,463 adult patients
used spa treatment and rehab care.
143,922
out of the total number
were from abroad (*). They used
the spa care more consistently.
If|we compare a foreign self-paying
spa visitor and a Czech client, the
foreign guest spends 12.6 days on
average in the Czech spa which is
twice as long as the Czech.
What has changed in the last five
years in Czech is the structure of
the spa guests in spa care. 38%
of international visitors came in
2009
according to UZIS whereas
it was 44 per cent last year. The
same tendency follows the number
of days spent in spa care which
is higher for foreign visitors. Its
index grew even more steeply.
Younger children are growing, adolescents
are declining. Diagnoses without changes
More children but less adolescents from abroad now use spa and rehabilitation care in
the Czech Republic compared to five years ago. Reasons for going there don´t change
very much.
Five years ago foreign visitors used
32
per cent of all treatment days,
compared to 46 per cent last year.
In real numbers it was 2,086,421
days when international clientelle
used healing spas expertise
(
just for comparison: the total
number of international guests
overnight stays in spas in 2013
was 3,121,851; source: The Czech
Statistic Office).
Children and adolescents are also
included as commerical clients.
The chart shows what health
reasons brought them to spas and
whether their problems changed
in the last five to 10 years and
how different they are from adults´
ailments. Czech spa treated 1,260
children from abroad last year
which is a|steep increase of almost
300
per cent in comparison with
2009.
On|the contrary only 78
adolescents went to spas in CR last
year. In the compared year there
were 367 and 98, respectively.

The total number of international
visitors of Czech spas is higher
thanks to wellness or traditional
tourists. Nowadays there are
375,000
of these visitors. 162,000
are citizens of Germany, 104,000
are from Russia; source: The Czech
